Bionic Woman

3rd of October, 2007

Michelle Ryan is the sometimes-attractive Bionic Woman

Quite deliberately, I don't know anything about this remake beyond the promos which have littered the Seven Network recently, but given my neverending lust for all things Science Fiction, I really can't wait for Bionic Woman to air tomorrow.

I have high hopes for shows featuring attractive women kicking arse.  With any luck, this will fill the void Buffy left when she walked out on me so many years ago.

I will be bitterly disappointed if this show turns out to be really crap, or worse... really good, but cancelled in the first season because American audiences don't like it, or because they refuse to switch over from Afghan Idol or Survivor: Fallujah, or something.

Channel Seasick

Ever get the urge to hurl when channel surfing?  I saw Patti Newton on Dancing With the Stars and tried to digest my television.

I had this image in my header rotation for a while.  It's a cheeky ad for Ché Men's Magazine, in Belgium.  I can't help thinking how quickly an ad like this would be banned in Australia.  What a fine example of provocative media.

Pseudonews

2nd of October, 2007

I know I keep complaining that what passes for news here is a steaming pile of bullshit intended to waste our time, and I realise that I might be getting a bit boring about it... sometimes I'm even tempted to bow to the ever-present pressure to stop moaning about it, but that's exactly what those who wish to obfuscate truth rely on.

This nation chooses not to complain when news sources dumb-down their stories or when they spoon-feed audiences pre-digested and biased opinion pieces instead of acting in a way befitting their job-title and reporting the facts.  We, along with America, have elected to obfuscate actual events and placate ourselves with irrelevant garbage under the guise of 'news' rather than demanding to be informed and challenging ourselves to act in support of our values.

If what we watched every night and read every morning was actually important and was presented in an honest way with some depth of research, leaving us feeling educated and informed, we might be tempted to get off our arses and act on that information.  We might even feel empowered with knowledge and inclined to use that knowledge in making our political and lifestyle choices.

Life might be a bit more complicated for us, having to actually make informed decisions for a change, so it's no wonder that we're all too happy to allow the power-mongering media moguls to shield us from all that extra burden... while they protect their own political interests.

In any case, to avoid endlessly repeating myself and becoming even more boring than I already am, I'm launching a Pseudonews category here on ivovic.net.  In that category you'll find my comments on the news stories which red-line my bullshit meter.  I'll still be posting anything serious to the Current Affairs category, Pseudonews is just about taking a step back and appreciating how ridiculous news has become.  Who knows, maybe I'll even learn to smile about it.

I’m never quitting again.

For whatever reason, it is easy to get into a state where you feel like you've had enough, and even easier to then tear down what you've built.  However, the thought of changing your mind and putting it all back together again is enough to put you off the task forever.

Reconstructing this blog is such a pain in the arse that no matter what the future brings, if I am still able to input text into a PC I will never ever quit blogging again.  Truth be told, if I had simply shifted the focus of my blog posts at the time, I might have even found it cathartic.

Sure, there will be times when I can't maintain regularity, but that's what personal blogs are all about.  Its OK to neglect them, but tearing things down is best left to those making your funeral arrangements.

Never again.
