Blogging Requires Energy

3rd of March, 2008

I haven't written a post in quite some time, and I'm really feeling like I have a few pent-up things to post about, but I've been so tired lately that every time I start to write, the process of forming a cohesive post on a difficult subject just seems like too much effort.

So, I've decided to post something easy -- a little roadmap for this site, which I hope will encourage me to check items off that list, instead of leaving it the unfinished mess that it is.

So, in no particular order, here's what I think I want to do with this place.  I'm still ironing out the details so I suppose

Axe the mini-forum

Driven only by the existence of BBPress and with no need whatsoever for a forum here, I'd decided to install and integrate it.  I might have kept it around if I could be arsed actually making it look like the rest of the site.

It's gallery time

Finding time to go shooting isn't easy, but I'm definitely encouraged by having decent equipment finally.  I think right now, I'd just like a place to dump my most interesting pics simply to have a record of my progress as a developing photographer (pardon the pun).  I don't expect any art to come of it necessarily, but nevertheless a web gallery seems like the right way to go.

Photoblog anyone?

The nice thing about photoblogs is that the content doesn't have to be brilliant, it just has to be a picture.  With any luck it'll be a picture worth looking at.

I quite like photoblogs, except that prefab packages tend to be lacking in thumbnail organisational structure.  I'd like to post pictures chronologically, but have them browsable by category after the fact.  If I can achieve that reasonably easily, I'll skip the gallery mentioned above.

Separate ivovic.net and ivovic.com

Right now ivovic.com redirects to ivovic.net but I have some plans for the .com domain, so soon I'll be performing surgery on the conjoined twins.  Anyone with updated bookmarks won't even notice, which is just the way I want it.

Sidebar your honour!

I sorely want to finish working on the "aggregation zone" on this blog.  I would like the sidebar here to tie into the stuff I'll be doing with photos, so that it's a one-stop-shop of what there is on the rest of the site.  I quite like being able to find a website's most recent activity within a couple of clicks, so that's what I'll be aiming for.

Attention-sufficit, please

I really like starting things because I enjoy the fresh appeal a new project brings but I'm not big on completing anything, usually because completion takes time and by the time it gets to that stage a dozen new things have already cropped up.  I'm really more of an ideas man, and I need a team to polish up all the details that I really enjoy seeing, but have little interest in actually implementing.

Unfortunately, this is my personal site so I have to do it all myself.  Wish me luck with actually finishing anything.

Well, good luck! I know the feeling, and I’ve a list of things that I want to do with my website, as well, but I never seem to get the time (considering that I am posting this from a hotel room at ~2 AM…).

A quick question, though - have you considered going with something like Flickr? I’m a Flickr pro member, and I absolutely love it — lots of cool features and a great community, as well as very user-friendly.

And you can always integrate your blog with your Flickr gallery, which will make both the gallery and the photoblog an easy thing to accomplish.

    Just a thought! :)

Stop screwing around and post something worth reading ;)

Bring on the pics, or at least bring on the provocative controversy.  What does a girl have to do to get some stimulation around here?

    (don’t answer that)
