End of the world, or just end of season?
Everyone around me is complaining about the screenwriters' strike, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to give a shit... At least not in the way everyone else is.

I really enjoy television too, but it's not my only coping mechanism for the bullshit life throws at me. The way some people are complaining about this strike you'd think their TV shows were being administered intravenously. Don't cry so much, your shows aren't going away forever, and these writers have the right to be paid for their work so let them get some justice.
If you want to be mad at someone, then get pissy at the companies who deny royalties to writers if their episodes are broadcast by modern means such as webcasts or via mobile phone. With Internet-based television-on-demand services popping up all over the place, they should be getting a share of the (massive) revenue, and frankly you having to wait a while to finish a season of your favourite show isn't going to kill you.
Australia with its small number of free-to-air channels, and with cable packed with cheap reruns is well-positioned to ride this out in style anyway. There are lots of good shows we've never seen here, so you'll know who to blame if we end up watching more reruns and reality shows -- and it's certainly not the writers.
We could start by finishing some of the shows shit-canned mid season by our big three networks, and if that doesn't hold us (until 2016) then we could consider picking up some (by now cheap) quality programming which didn't rate as highly as the high-rating made-for-idiots stuff we've all come to love so much.
We've missed out, and it's a great time to catch up. If that doesn't happen, then the blame lies with the cheapskate networks.

It *is* the end of the world.
No writers mean no ‘heroes’!!!!!!!!!!! That is the end!!
*runs around with a placard reading: “The End is HERE” Arghhh*
But in all seriousness, I am not blaming the writers. I just hope they get what they deserve, and that it all goes back to regular writing soon! (read: before they run out of heroes episodes)
I would give them whatever they wanted, if I was in a position to do so… perhaps I should petition Oprah to help!
good idea, Oprah should get out there with a sign and make herself useful ;)
I agree, they should get what they’ve earned, and it should never have gotten to this point in the first place.
More money for the writer’s is going to mean less money for who? That’s what I want to know. If it is the actors, then just do it. They get enough already!!
Its not even the actors, its the big corporations who own the licenses and copyrights.
The actors will continue to negotiate as usual.
yeah… SCREW THE MAN!!
And don’t forget idiot media execs try killing the golden goose to see if it can make more money, or kill off a very successful franchise to make room for a wrestling show. Or whatever.
Who cares about writers when you can have the latest shocker that gets you audience, right? You know, I stopped watching TV about 4 1/2 years ago. Don’t own one, don’t watch it and don’t care. It’s been rather blissful.
The shows that I do like (e.g. Stargate), I buy the season DVDs at the end of each season. Happiness all around.
