Congratulations, it’s a Forum

21st of October, 2007

Blogs are sometimes painfully one-way in nature, so since re-launching ivovic.net, I've planned to implement a simple forum which integrates well with WordPress.  While there are a few plugins which do this, only a couple are being actively supported and both of those are pretty bloated and better suited to people who want a full-blown forum package.

Since this is my personal site, and is unlikely to have more than a handful of regulars, installing something like phpBB, IPB or vBulletin is the definition of overkill, so I've chosen (perhaps quite logically) to go with bbPress, by the makers of WordPress itself.

The nice part about it, is that it's configured to share the same user database as wordpress, so if you have a user registration on my blog you'll automatically be able to post on the forums.  If you've not yet registerred, then you can do so here, or head on over to the forum and do it there in a couple of clicks.

Yeah, but who cares?

Well, that's just the point.  Since casual visitors don't care, and since most of my friends tend to just invite themselves to my place whenever they want, there isn't going to be a lot of traffic there -- hence the desire for something really simple in the first place.

You're only likely to care if you happen to be a (mostly-)online friend, or if you've loved my posts so much that you wish to bear my children but have no other way to contact me.

Basically it's a place to post something which is not a response to a specific blog entry.

The forum is available at: www.ivovic.net/forum

Hey I watched you set this up a little while ago.

I was digging around, and saw you break the forums no less than 8 times while trying to get it to work with the ‘ć’ in your name, haha.

I’m really glad to have a place where I can post my devotion to you, and all the semi-naked pics I’ve taken of myself in the mirror, lol :p

    OO me rikey!

Now Yas and I can talk behind your back in front of you. =)

What’s this about “(mostly-)online” friends anyway?  Was that your way of telling your RL friends to piss off, or are we allowed on too?  What about employees? lol we have the best dirt.

Yeah, that’s still causing a few issues with the registration emails.  If I can’t fix it quickly, I may have to anglocise the forum name, which would suck.

..and no I didn’t mean to exclude anyone Shana, though locking you two out probably isn’t a bad idea!

Maybe check your spam box BJ… there’s a chance the language used in the email could be picked up as spam :(

If it’s not there, I’ll send your details myself!

By the way, I found your suggestion - lets talk about it on the forums (when you get your logon details)
